We had a flavorful experience at The House of Gorges! Tried the Fresh Pepper Jumping Fish, which was tender and packed with bold, peppery heat which was definitely a standout. The Cumin Lamb was fragrant with just the right amount of spice, while the Mala Chicken brought that addictive numbing kick without overwhelming the palate. The Beef with Green Onion was comforting, juicy and well balanced. I love beef! The Fish Fillet Hotpot came bubbling and aromatic, loaded with flavor. Fried rice was simple but a nice base to balance the mains. A great spot if you’re into spicy Sichuan flavors!
Busy. Quick. Spicy. Loved this place and specially the Sichuan dry stir-fry chicken. IT WAS SO CRUNCHY! The spice was perfect. I can’t wait to go and try it again. The cumin beef, on the other hand, did not live up to the expectations. There was too much cumin in it. The smell of cumin was too overpowering and I really think it is an overhyped dish at this place. I will definitely be back and try the hot pot and other things, just not cumin beef.
My wife and I are huge fans of House of Three Gorges! We’ve been coming here at least once a week because the Sichuan food is just that good—authentic, flavorful, and always hits the spot. The gentleman at the register never fails to greet us with a big, warm smile, which makes every visit feel so welcoming. The service overall is fantastic, with the staff always being attentive and friendly. Just a heads-up, during peak lunch and dinner hours, expect a 25-35 minute wait—it’s totally worth it, though! If you’re craving legit Sichuan cuisine, this place is a must-try. Highly recommend!
Really great restaurant to come at least to try at the very minimum. Would suggest to get there early because it fills up extremely fast. We got there like 10 minutes after they opened on a Sunday and it was practically full. We ordered the General Tso Chicken, jumping fish, green beans and wonton soup. They were all delicious and amazing. Entrees range $15-$20 but they give good portion sizes so it’s worth it
delicious food and great service! i LOVE the jumping fish and the portion was gigantic. my bf got combo fried rice and it was also great and fresh, but the shrimp could’ve been cooked just a bit more. 10/10 would recommend and will definitely be coming back.
Oh man what can I add about this place that hasn’t already been said? As a vegetarian, I will say this is easiest the best vegetarian mapo tofu that not only you can get in Austin but in the states. I have had other vegetarian mapo tofu both here and in LA (specifically the San Gabriel Valley where there is a large population of Asians) and the flavor of the vegetarian mapo tofu here is easily one of the best. It has the perfect amount of spiciness without being overwhelmingly spicy and I love that the dish wasn’t too oily at all. It pairs perfectly with rice - a little spicy, a little tingly, a little umami from black bean paste they use. My husband who eats meat thought it was also delicious as well and didn’t even miss the ground pork that mapo tofu traditionally comes in. We also had the dry sautéed green beans which comes in like a dry pepper sauce - the green beans were the perfect texture crunchy on outside but tender on the inside and the seasoning added a lot of flavor. Note this isn’t a garlic green bean in’s of dish so if you’re eating it hoping to get some garlic flavor think again. We also got the eggplant in garlic sauce which was served in what I kind of think as a way more fragrant and garlic heavy teriyaki sauce that isn’t overly salty which I loved. Portions are huge! We always are able to make 2-3 meals out of the dishes. Waiting wise, they do have a tablet set up front that you can put yourself on the waitlist if all the tables are full. On a Saturday night at 5:30 PM for table of 2 we waited 10 minutes. You will put your number in on the tablet and they text you when a table is ready. You then go to the counter to order after before sitting down. Parking is free as it is in a huge strip mall next to Target.
A small family owned place serving very legit Sichuan fare. Prices are mid but portions are large. The boiled beef had a very generous portion of tender succulent beef that was delicious in the hot oil and Sichuan peppers. The mapo tofu was the traditional Sichuan style with the broadbean spicy paste. Would definitely come back fir the boiled fish
We absolutely loved our meal at House of Three Gorges. I definitely recommend trying multiple dishes because it's fun to share and the food is amazing! Everything that we ate was delicious. The dried green beans were probably the star of the show - perfectly cooked and with incredible spices. The Szechuan flavor was strong with all of the dishes. I don't think I had ever experiences the tingling sensation before- like my tongue was a little tingly with a nice subtle amount of heat. The dry pot cauliflower was also incredibly tasty, along with the jumping fish. The mapo tofu was a fun dish, but not my favorite. We'll definitely be back! And I recommend you stopping next door for some bubble tea as a sweet treat to top it off!
